Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan Open Up an Astonishing 12-Point Lead at the Summit of the Italian Serie A Table

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan Open Up an Astonishing 12-Point Lead at the Summit of the Italian Serie A Table

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan are taking their 2023/2024 Italian Serie A campaign very seriously, as the current best team in the Italian top-flight football and one of the most consistent European football clubs this year have a grandiose mission of toppling their archrivals AC Milan in terms of the number of Serie A titles won at the end of the existing campaign. Just yesterday, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan were scheduled to host Atalanta BC at San Siro for their Matchday 26 fixture in the league, and separate players were on the scoresheet for I Nerazzurri in their statement 4-0 win. The 3 points opened up a 12-point lead for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan over second-placed Juventus.

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan Cruised to Their 22nd League Win in 2023/2024

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan dominated their visitors at home in superb fashion, with a couple of goals spotted each in both halves. Former Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian and I Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martínez were the goal scorers for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan, with the former drawing first blood moments before the half-hour mark. Martínez tried to find the charging Henrikh Mkhitaryan with a through ball, but it was intercepted by the opposing goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, who could not hold the ball during that defensive play, allowing Darmian to slot home the opener into the unguarded goal.

First minute into the opening half’s injury time, 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning forward Martínez doubled the home team’s lead with his 26th goal in 34 games in all competitions for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan this year. The 26-year-old Argentine forward received the ball just outside the penalty box, before he turned his body and fired a long-ranged shot into the back of the net, leaving goalie Carnesecchi to stand in embarrassment. Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan did not have to wait long to extend their advantage in the home fixture, as Martínez’s second-half penalty kick was parried away by the goalkeeper, but Federico Dimarco was there to clean things up with his effort that squeezed past the poor Carnesecchi.

Substitute Davide Frattesi was the player responsible for Inter’s fourth and final goal of the game, when he headed a freekick set piece delivery by fellow replacement Alexis Sánchez into the back of the net. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old Frattesi, who came onto the game for Mkhitaryan in the 62nd minute, had apparently hurt himself in his attempt to score Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan’s fourth goal of the evening, and the substitute was replaced by Davy Klaassen not long after his goal. The game would end with I Nerazzurri being the 4-0 winners after 90 minutes plus added time.

Inzaghi’s Verdicts on Inter Milan’s Consistent Performance

The 4-0 win over Atalanta BC was Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan’s 23rd victory in the 2023/2024 Italian Serie A Season, and I Nerazzurri also have a monumental goal difference of 55 with 12 games remaining in the league. The Italian head coach had this to say over their superb showing at home yesterday: “The lads were fantastic. In the first 10-15 minutes, Atalanta pressed us high up the pitch and we didn’t start like we usually do. We needed to settle down, but then we played very well, scored and rediscovered the ferocity that characterises us. These are great signs for our journey, which must continue unabated.”

The verdicts on Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan did not stop there, as the 47-year-old manager continued stating “As regards my celebration with Dimarco when he made it 3-0, I’d spoken with him while the VAR check was taking place. I told him to be ready to run into the box to meet any potential rebound. The ball ended up in that zone and Federico did really well to score a goal that had us well on our way to victory. It’s important to improve these aspects; there’s something to learn in every detail and every match. The team are playing well, and we’ve won five trophies and been involved in a Champions League final in recent times”.

Despite the huge lead Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan now have, the gaffer wants his side to maintain their showing for the eventual title at the end of the season. “Together with our fans, we’re doing great things. We know that we’ve managed to create this gap in a month, but there are still many games to go and we need to stay focused because everything can change quickly in football. We have a team that sticks to its principles even when there is a change of personnel. That’s my biggest satisfaction, together with the atmosphere that has been created at San Siro,” noted the man who used to play for Atalanta BC during his playing career.

Will Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan Become the First Team to Be Crowned League Champions in Europe’s Top Five Leagues?

With the impressive Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan gained over the second-placed Old Lady at the summit of the Italian top-flight football, it is interesting to see whether I Nerazzurri are set to become the first team in Europe’s Top Five Leagues to be awarded league winners before the 2023/2024 Season draws to a close.

If we take a look at the remaining four leagues, Paris Saint-Germain are the other team who have a double-digit advantage (11 points) over the second-placed team (Stade Brestois 29), and the current French Ligue 1 campaign is left with only 11 Matchdays at the moment. As for the case of the English Premier League, the Spanish La Liga and the German Bundesliga 1, Liverpool and Manchester City are in a tough battle with only a single point separating the duo with 12 games to go, whereas Real Madrid and Bayer 04 Leverkusen each have a 6- and 8-point advantage over the second-placed Girona FC and Bayern Munich with 12 and 11 games remaining respectively.

Should all of these top teams extend their consistent performance this season, the first team to be crowned league champions in Europe’s Top Five League are likely to be borne between Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan and Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain.
