Inter Milan Came From Behind to Save a Point Against Juventus and Remained Top of the Italian Serie A After 13 Games

Inter Milan Came From Behind to Save a Point Against Juventus and Remained Top of the Italian Serie A After 13 Games

19-time Italian league winners and the current no. 1 team in the Italian top-flight football Inter Milan were able to rescue a point at Allianz Stadium, when they travelled there to face title contenders and second-placed Juventus for a Matchday 13 fixture in 2023/2024. The visiting I Nerazzurri were down 1-0 against their nemesis, the Old Lady, but they went on to level things up shortly after the home team’s opener, and the 1-1 score line stayed till the final whistle of the match, allowing Inter Milan to continue to stay top of the Italian Serie A table for another week.

250th Derby d’Italia Between Inter Milan and Juventus

The Inter Milan-Juventus clash is also known as Derby d’Italia in Italy, with yesterday’s meeting being the 250th encounter between the two Italian football powerhouses. Prior to this 250th Derby d’Italia at Allianz Stadium, Juventus were leading the head-to-head record with a superior win total of 112 as compared to Inter Milan’s 76, having first played each other in the Italian Football Championship on 14th November 1909, that is, more than a decade ago.

Massimiliano Allegri went for three replacements from his last starting 11 before the final international break in the calendar year of 2023, while the opposing Simone Inzaghi only had one change in his starters; Both the Old Lady and I Nerazzurri beat their opponents, Cagliari Calcio 2-1 and Frosinone Calcio 2-0 on Matchday 12 respectively.

The opening goal of the 250th Derby d’Italia was scored by the home side inside the first half an hour of the match, courtesy of Dušan Vlahović’s fifth goal in 11 appearances in all competitions this season. The 23-year-old Serbian forward won the ball back for the home team around the middle park of the pitch, before he gave a pass to his teammate Federico Chiesa at the left flank. The Italian winger then went all the way into the penalty box, followed by a return of favour for Vlahović to draw the first blood of the game.

Inter Milan Fought Back to Force a Draw Against Juventus

Juventus’s lead and joy were short-lived, as the visitors levelled things up shortly after Vlahović’s effort in the 27th minute. 26-year-old Lautaro Martínez, Inter Milan’s captain and Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning forward, gave his club the equaliser in the 33rd minute, when Yann Sommer found Denzel Dumfries with his clearance, and the Dutch wing-back immediately gave the ball to Nicolò Barella. The 26-year-old Italian midfielder Barella would waste no time to find new summer signing Marcus Thuram, who took a few dribbles before his cross that found his skipper to make the game all square again.

Lautaro Martínez’s 15th goal in 17 games in all competitions for Inter Milan would ensure I Nerazzurri continue to dominate the Italian Serie A after 13 Matchdays, with them sitting on top with 32 points out of a possible 39, whereas Juventus remained second with 2 points adrift the summit of Italian top-flight football. Inter Milan will travel to Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica to face S.L. Benfica from the Portuguese Primeira Liga on Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League this season, while the Old Lady will be given enough rest before their league game against AC Monza this Saturday since they do not have any European club football obligations.
