Who Are the Last Three Unbeaten Teams in Europe’s Top Five Domestic Leagues in 2023/2024?

Who Are the Last Three Unbeaten Teams in Europe’s Top Five Domestic Leagues in 2023/2024?

As everyone in the football world are heading to their fifth and final international break in the calendar year of 2023, it is time to look at which are the remaining unbeaten teams in Europe’s top five domestic leagues in 2023/2024, and the result might be surprising to spectators. While there are no unbeaten teams in the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A, three teams from the German Bundesliga 1 and French Ligue 1 are still invincible in their league endeavours this season, and they are Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and OGC Nice.

Let us now take a look at how well these three unbeaten teams in Europe’s top five leagues have fared in 2023/2024 thus far.

1. Bayer 04 Leverkusen

The Xabi Alonso-managed Bayer 04 Leverkusen is not only one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the top five domestic leagues, the German outfit is arguably the best team across all competitions at the moment. Apart from sitting proudly at the first position in the league table with 10 wins from 11 matches, Bayer 04 Leverkusen also won all six of their local and international cup matches, including two DFB-Pokal triumphs and four UEFA Europa League wins. Earlier this month, Bayer 04 Leverkusen also became the first European football club to reach 50 goals in all competitions this season thus far, registering 59 goals in only 17 matches.

The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfield star Alonso has worked under some of the most famous football coaches during his time as a player, such as Rafael Benítez, José Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, etc., and it would not be an upset if the Spaniard does lead his Bayer 04 Leverkusen to topple Bayern in the league and conquer Europe with the form the team are in now.

2. Bayern Munich

Although they are trailing Alonso’s Bayer 04 Leverkusen by two points in the German Bundesliga 1 table, Thomas Tuchel’s men have been tearing teams apart in league as well as the UEFA Champions League, largely owing to Harry Kane’s arrival. The Tottenham Hotspur and England’s all-time goal scorer came to Bayern last summer and have brought his season tally to a whooping total of 21 goals and seven assists in only 16 games played in all competitions, solving the Bavarians’ striker problems that surfaced in their previous campaign; Bayern now have 29 points out of a possible 33 with a superior goal difference of 33 and have qualified for the UCL Last 16 over four Matchdays.

Nevertheless, one thing that allowed Bayer 04 Leverkusen to reign supreme over Tuchel’s men in terms of records as unbeaten teams is shown in the former’s domestic cup performances, while the latter have failed to capture the DFL-Super Cup and bowed out from the DFB-Pokal following a 3-0 loss and a shocking 2-1 comeback defeat to RB Leipzig and 1. FC Saarbrücken respectively.

3. OGC Nice

As compared to Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, OGC Nice has been one of biggest risers in Europe this season, considering the low expectations set on them prior to 2023/2024. With seven wins and five draws under 34-year-old manager Francesco Farioli, OGC Nice are the only unbeaten team in Europe’s top four leagues apart from the Bundesliga 1, and the Italian head coach, who is much older than club captain Dante, rubbished the idea of that he cannot lead a team to glory due to his tender age. OGC Nice are only a single point behind 11-time champions Paris Saint-Germain at the moment.

How Long Can These Unbeaten Teams Last?

Since there are only three teams left as unbeaten teams in Europe’s top five domestic leagues, the question now is: How long can their invincible run be extended?
