Manchester United’s Injury List: 20-Year-Old Rasmus Højlund and 31-Year-Old Christian Eriksen Suffer Injury Blows

Manchester United’s Injury List: 20-Year-Old Rasmus Højlund and 31-Year-Old Christian Eriksen Suffer Injury Blows

Just when you thought Manchester United’s injury list cannot get any worse this 2023/2024 English Premier League Season, the Danish duo of Rasmus Højlund and Christian Eriksen will now be added to the long list of casualties, following their injury blows suffered during Manchester United‘s 1-0 win over Luton Town in the league last weekend. During the Matchday 12 fixture at Old Trafford, the younger Højlund was forced to be taken off by Anthony Martial with 11 minutes to go in the normal playing time, whereas his older compatriot was replaced by Mason Mount moments before the half-time break.

Manchester United’s Injury List Extended

The Red Devils were able to secure their back-to-back wins in the Premier League last weekend, when Victor Lindelöf nailed the only goal of the match right before the hour mark against the newly promoted Luton Town at home. Nevertheless, although the defender’s first club goal in more than two years propelled Manchester United to the sixth position of the league table, Erik ten Hag’s men will be heading to the following international break with lots of adjustments to do, since they will now have Højlund and Eriksen in Manchester United’s injury list for a period of time.

The latest two members of Manchester United’s injury list found themselves wounded and could not carry on for the full 90 minutes plus added time for the home side versus Luton Town last weekend, with Eriksen limping off due to a knee problem and Højlund now suffers from a right hamstring strain.

Manchester United’s Statement on Højlund and Eriksen

In an official statement titled “Injury Update on Eriksen and Højlund”, the club confirmed both players have been added to Manchester United’s injury list, and that they have immediately withdrawn themselves from the Denmark national team in the upcoming international break. According to the announcement, the older Danish Eriksen will not be back until mid December, while everyone is hoping that Højlund can return to the squad from Manchester United’s injury list later this month.

“Manchester United has issued an injury update on Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Højlund, following their withdrawal from Denmark’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers. Both were flagged as doubts for their international duties by Erik ten Hag, following our 1-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday, when the manager was keeping his fingers crossed that they would not be out for too long.

“Eriksen made way for Mason Mount in the first half at Old Trafford, while Højlund initially continued playing after receiving treatment late on. The striker was then replaced by Anthony Martial in the final moments of a victory that leaves the Reds in sixth place in the Premier League table heading into this latest break. Christian has a knee injury that is set to keep him out for around a month, while striker Rasmus suffered a muscle strain. It is hoped he will return before the end of November.”

Seven First-Team Players Injured for ten Hag’s Side

Højlund’s and Eriksen’s injury blows certainly are not a good news for ten Hag’s men, who now have total of seven first-team players in Manchester United’s injury list, having also lost Tyrell Malacia, Amad Diallo, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martínez and Casemiro earlier this season.

The Red Devils may have won four of their last five league games, but the absence of the said members in Manchester United’s injury list, coupled with off-field crisis that the team have been shouldering on, it would be an uphill task for the current bottom team of Group A to reach the knockout round of the UEFA Champions League; The sixth-placed United in the Premier League currently have three points after four Matchdays in the European club football competition.
