Jadon Sancho, Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial Among Players Who Could Leave Manchester United This Summer

Jadon Sancho, Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial Among Players Who Could Leave Manchester United This Summer

It is no secret that these players have been shown the exit door from Manchester United, after not performing up to par under new Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag in the recent season. Several changes are expected for the Dutchman’s second year in-charge, including essential pre-season plans, important incoming transfers such as England midfielder Mason Mount and departures for some notable names. Let us find out the list of players who could leave Manchester United this summer transfer window:

7 Players Who Could Leave Manchester United This Summer

Jadon Sancho

The 23-year-old winger completed his much-waited move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United back in 2021, and has been unable to replicate his German Bundesliga 1 form in the English Premier League. The Camberwell-born player, who managed to score 49 goals for Dortmund in his final three seasons, only managed 12 goals in 79 appearances for the Red Devils, and had his playing minutes impacted last season due to arrival of Brazilian forward Antony. It is reported that fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur is interested in signing Sancho, should the player decide his time is up to leave Manchester United.

Harry Maguire

The United skipper suffered catastrophic seasons since the 2020 UEFA European Championship and saw his starting position edged out by Argentine Lisandro Martínez and Frenchman Raphaël Varane. Being at 30 years of age, it is understandably that Maguire would love to have more game time, and Manchester United is willing to listen to any offers that are approximately £40m. Spurs are among clubs who have joined the race to earn the England national team defender’s signature.

Anthony Martial

The French striker had his best career scoring season in United shirt in 2019/2020, bagging 23 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions for the 13-time Premier League champion. Nevertheless, a series of injuries significantly influenced his form in the following three seasons, and that is a worrying sign for a team like Manchester United, who had finishing issues up front last season. Erik ten Hag will be desperately shopping for a no. 9 this transfer window, meaning underperforming forwards such as Martial are left with one option: Leave Manchester United.

David de Gea

With Phil Jones leaving the club as a free agent, Manchester United no. 1 David de Gea is the sole remaining member in the squad to have won the Premier League, which happened during the final season in-charge of Sir Alex Ferguson. The 32-year-old, who recently brought home a second Premier League Golden Glove award, has a contract expiring later this week and an extension has not been signed till present. In relation to this, there have been rumours about Erik ten Hag seeking a new starting goalkeeper, if his agile Spanish shot stopper is to leave Manchester United as a free agent after playing for the Red Devils for more than a decade.

Donny van de Beek

The Dutchman was a panic buy under Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Since joining Manchester United back in August 2020, Donny van de Beek managed 60 appearances for the club over three seasons, scoring a mere couple of goals as a result. The out-of-favour midfielder suffered a season-ending knee injury last January and has been offered to clubs for a loan or permanent deal, including former United manager Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in Italy.

Dean Henderson

The 26-year-old English goalie was tipped to succeed David de Gea to guard the goal for Manchester United for many years to come, but the Spaniard reclaimed his no. 1 spot in the club via a rejuvenated form, forcing Henderson to go on loan for minutes. The former Manchester United academy graduate had an outburst of dissatisfaction over his playing time in the senior team and could be penning a deal with his last season’s employer Nottingham Forest for £20 million this summer.

Anthony Elanga

It is evident that Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United is stacked with talents at its wings and there are many matchdays where Swedish flanker Anthony Elanga have to make way for preferred players such as Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Sancho in the winger role. Clubs such as Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Everton will be eager to lure the young player away from Old Trafford, should a £20-million proposal arrive.

Takeaways

This summer transfer window will determine whether Manchester United is really back on track to revive its past glory days, having finished third in the Premier League, won the EFL Cup and reached the final of FA Cup last season. Apart from clearing deadwoods in the team, it is imperative that the Red Devils sort out their ownership issues as soon as possible to enable better cashflow and liquidity in business.
