28-Year-Old Luke Shaw Back in Training From Severe Muscle Problems to Relieve Manchester United’s Defensive Problems

28-Year-Old Luke Shaw Back in Training From Severe Muscle Problems to Relieve Manchester United’s Defensive Problems

Manchester United and head coach Erik ten Hag finally welcomed a great news in recent teams, since their no. 3 player and England left-back Luke Shaw is now reportedly back in training for the club earlier this week ahead of their weekend clash versus Everton; The 28-year-old, who is the starting defender for ten Hag’s Manchester United, was out for three months since the start of the new season due to a muscle injury, and his return will handle a key injury boost for both the Red Devils and the England national team for their aspirations in 2023/2024 and the UEFA European Championship 2024 at Germany next summer respectively.

Luke Shaw Back After a Three-Month Absence

The England player picked up his muscle problems late August and has not featured in Manchester United‘s squad since their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Matchday 2 of this season’s English Premier League. The 28-year-old left-back was initially ruled out until December 2023, but his return in training for the Red Devils suggests that his recovery has been optimistic and ahead of schedule.

Luke Shaw completed a £30-million transfer to United from Southampton F.C. during the summer transfer window of the 2014/2015 Season, making him the most expensive teenager in the world of football. Since then, the defender racked up 262 appearances in all tournaments for the Red Devils, and he is currently the long-serving player with over nine years of experience in a Manchester United jersey, excluding those who played and graduated from the club’s academy since their school days; Luke Shaw also won three titles as a member of the Red Devils, having secured the UEFA Europa League, EFL CUP and FA Community Shield one each.

In terms of international level, Luke Shaw accumulated a total of 31 international caps for his country, scoring three goals during the process, including his opener for England against Italy in the UEFA Euro 2020 Final in Wembley more than two years ago.

Lisandro Martínez Also Spotted in Training

Apart from Luke Shaw, ten Hag will also be delighted to have his starting centre-back Lisandro Martínez back. The 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning defender from Argentina devastatingly fractured his foot during United’s UEFA Europa League Quarterfinal clash versus Sevilla last April, and he was seen offering moral and physical support to his teammates ahead of their next Premier League encounter at Carrington. Martínez have registered a total of 51 appearances over two seasons for the 20-time England champions since the 2022/2023 Season and was one of the reasons why United made it into two domestic cup finals and finished third in the league last year.

Will Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martínez Be Available for Manchester United Against Everton?

The 25-year-old Martínez is still some distance from his return to Manchester United’s starting lineup, let alone the game against Everton this weekend, whereas Luke Shaw is expected to play a part of the Red Devils’ 13th league game of the season, although it is practically impossible to have the England star to be inserted into the first 11 right after his injury. Nonetheless, both players’ return will definitely ease ten Hag’s Red Devils’ defensive issues that saw them conceded 30 goals since the beginning of the 2023/2024 Season.

Manchester United are currently sixth in the league table with seven wins in 12 games. They are set to travel to Goodison Park and face Everton this weekend for the following round of the English Premier League. United of course only lost twice in ten previous meetings in all competitions to their Sunday opponents, winning the last three matches in the league and domestic competition during the process.
