How Did Internazionale Milano Move 15 Points Clear at the Summit of the Italian Serie A Table?

How Did Internazionale Milano Move 15 Points Clear at the Summit of the Italian Serie A Table?

The joint-second most successful club in the Italian top-flight football Internazionale Milano are on a promising run to become the Italian Serie A champions for the 20th time in the history of the league competition. The Internazionale Milano side, led by 47-year-old Simone Inzaghi, took on Genoa CFC at San Siro yesterday for their 27th league match 2023/2024 yesterday and two first-half goals saw the team winning for the 23rd time in the domestic competition, thus extending their lead at the summit of the table to 15 points over the second-placed Juventus, who succumbed to the defending Italian champions SSC Napoli a day prior to the Inter Milan-Genoa CFC contest at Internazionale Milano’s home.

Kristjan Asllani and Alexis Sánchez Offered Early Advantage to Internazionale Milano

Playing before their roaring home fans at San Siro, Internazionale Milano raced to a two-nil advantage with a couple of goals in quick succession. The first blood of this fixture was drawn in the 30th minute, when four Internazionale Milano players combined in an attacking play, with Alexis Sánchez connecting Kristjan Asllani at the end. The young midfielder from the Albania national football team then smashed a solid effort past Josep Martínez for the opening goal of this game. The goal was the 21-year-old’s inaugural tally in an Internazionale Milano jersey after 53 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Only eight minutes later, Inter Milan doubled their lead from the spot, and former Arsenal and Manchester United player Sánchez was again involved in the buildup, this time becoming the goal scorer. Nicolò Barella was put onto the ground due to a sliding tackle by Morten Frendrup, and a penalty was given upon VAR verification. The 35-year-old Sánchez could do no wrong as the penalty taker as his strike sent the goalkeeper to the opposite direction.

The visiting Genoa CFC did pull one back against Internazionale Milano at San Siro following a wonderful volley by Johan Vásquez just outside the penalty box six minutes prior to the hour mark, but that was as far as Alberto Gilardino’s side could get against Inzaghi’s team last night, meaning Internazionale Milano won the game with a 2-1 score line.

Internazionale Milano Inches Away From Their 20th Serie A Trophy

The 2-1 triumph at home last night gave Internazionale Milano their 23rd win of the league campaign, accumulating 72 points out of a possible 81 in their hunt of a 20th Italian top-flight football trophy as a result. What is more interesting is that due to the loss suffered by Juventus against SSC Napoli yesterday, Internazionale Milano have also extended their lead at the top of the league table to a massive 15 points, and with the lofty goal difference Inter Milan have over the second-placed Old Lady, it will only be a matter of time before Inzaghi’s men are crowned Italian champions once again.

As compared to the one-horse race in the Serie A campaign in 2023/2024, the current English Premier League Season is a tight contest to determine the eventual winners thanks to excellent results as seen in the top three teams Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal after 27 games played. In the Gunners’ league encounter yesterday against bottom-placed Sheffield United, Mikel Arteta’s side scored five in the opening half and added another goal in the following 45 minutes to bag all 3 points for the seventh consecutive time in the league, making them one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League. Inzaghi on Internazionale Milano’s 15-Point Lead at the Top: “We Are Doing Very Well.”

“It’s difficult to keep going as we are when having so many fixtures to fulfill: They all have their difficulties, we need to stay strong and stay focused. We still have two and a half busy months ahead. I commended Asllani on how he has worked: From the outside you can’t always tell, but Kristjan also worked hard last year. He tries to learn in every training session and this week he played three great games, as did the whole team, Everyone is doing very well,” Inzaghi said this during the post-match conference of Internazionale Milano’s home game against Genoa CFC in the Serie A.

The Italian gaffer then added more words on Internazionale Milano’s gigantic lead of 15 points with 11 games to go: “Titles count more than records, in addition to feeling good: My greatest satisfaction is seeing the team play like this with every player contributing, then the rest follows. We’ve won a Supercoppa Italiana, qualified for the Club World Cup, we are achieving great results in the league, now we will see what happens in the Champions League, which will be very difficult. This year we have changed a lot, we have brought in new players but they are all working well: The club helps me to make things go as well as possible, These guys have been very open.”

The ex-SS Lazio player went on to highlight the important elements for Internazionale Milano to anticipate for the rest of the season. “We are doing very well but there are still two months to go: We need to recover physically now, rotation in this period is slightly limited. We could have gone 3-0 up, but Vásquez’s goal made the game difficult: We did well. The club did well bringing Thuram in. He has great qualities and has fitted in very well: Credit goes to him for the way he is working.”
