The Philadelphia 76ers Trade James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Beard Set to Form a Big Four with Westbrook, Leonard and George

The Philadelphia 76ers Trade James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Beard Set to Form a Big Four with Westbrook, Leonard and George

Just a few games into the new NBA Season in 2023/2024, we have welcomed a breaking news in the trade market that shocked the world of basketball, as 34-year-old shooting guard James Harden has been traded to Western Conference’s Los Angeles Clippers from Eastern Conference’s Philadelphia 76ers. The news broke out and was confirmed late in the evening by famous NBA insider of ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski, that James Harden will be joining his fifth NBA team in his 14-year professional career in the league, and his arrival will immediately elevate Clippers’ chances of winning the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy at the end of the season.

Details About the James Harden Deal to Los Angeles

The breaking James Harden deal will see the Los Angeles Clippers give up multiple players and picks, including Marcus Morris, Nic Batum, Robert Covington, Kenyon Martin Jr., the 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks, a pick swap and an additional first-round pick from a third team, while Clippers will receive P. J. Tucker and Filip Petrušev in addition to the Beard’s arrival at Los Angeles. Furthermore, in order to free up space to complete the blockbuster deal in the second week of the new NBA Season in 2023/2024, the Philadelphia 76ers are set to waive 36-year-old three-time NBA champion and shooting guard Danny Green in the near future.

Why Is James Harden Traded From the Philadelphia 76ers?

If you have been following the NBA closely, then you would know that James Harden is set to be traded to another team some time this season, after the 34-year-old former Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets player publicly voiced out his dissatisfaction against Daryl Morey, the president of basketball operations of the Philadelphia 76ers a few months ago.

In a viral video posted online, James Harden infamously and repeatedly called the 51-year-old Morey a liar in the previous offseason, saying that “Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organisation that he’s a part of. Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organisation that he’s a part of”. James Harden’s actions immediately laid a foundation that both parties have reached the point of no return as result, but teams were skeptical about making a trade for him due to his attitude when it comes to forcing himself out of an organisation that he does not wish to play for.

The 34-year-old James Harden was drafted third by the Thunder back in 2009 and was part of the squad that reached the Finals in 2012, where they were defeated by LeBron James’s Miami Heat. Harden then switched sides to the Rockets following a three-season stint with the franchise that drafted him, and spent nine years with the team in red, reaching two Western Conference Finals as a result. What followed suit was disappointing for James Harden at the Eastern Conference, as the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers led by him and other stars did not manage to live up to expectations.

The Beard to Form a Big Four with Westbrook, Leonard and George

To his and many fans’ amazement, the Los Angeles Clippers decided to make a trade for the 34-year-old James Harden, and the deal would mean the shooting guard is back to the Western Conference for the first time since the 2020/2021 Season. The Beard’s arrival at LA might now give him and the Clippers franchise a legitimate shot of winning the NBA championship, since James Harden will now have the luxury of playing alongside all-star calibre players such as Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

The duo of Kawhi and George was tipped to bring the first ever Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy to the other side of Los Angeles since they joined the team in the 2019/2020 Season, but they have failed to do so in the past three years with eliminations in the Western Conference Semifinals, Finals and First Round respectively. The Los Angeles Clippers are now sitting in seventh place of the Western Conference following their two wins and one loss in their opening three games of the 2023/2024 NBA Season, and questions will now be whether James Harden and a defensive great like P. J. Tucker can finally bring successes to the franchise.
