Evan Ferguson: Manchester City Leading the Race to Sign Brighton & Hove Albion’s New 18-Year-Old Starboy

Evan Ferguson: Manchester City Leading the Race to Sign Brighton & Hove Albion’s New 18-Year-Old Starboy

The rise of Evan Ferguson and his transfer news relating to Manchester City have once again proven English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion’s ability to produce wonderkids in the world of football. If we take a look at the history book, promising young talents who played for the the Seagulls in recent times such as the likes of Marc Cucurella, Leandro Trossard, Alexis Mac Allister, Moisés Caicedo, Robert Lynch Sánchez, etc. have all gone on to sign for some of the biggest names in European football clubs in the transfer market. Hence, it is really not a surprise to see the Seagulls to nurture another star footballer in the making in such a short span.

Evan Ferguson Became Only the Fourth 18-Year-Old to Score a Premier League Hat-Trick

Despite having lost some of the core players who helped the team achieve its first European club competition appearance after they finished sixth in last season’s Premier League, Brighton has still been able to perform its best this year, owing their impressive start largely to teenage sensation Evan Ferguson. Now, the question buzzing your mind must what is so special about the 18-year-old kid that caught the eye of Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning Manchester City side. Let us delve into it right away!

Born on 19th October 2004, Evan Ferguson made his Premier League debut back in the 2021/2022 Season and ranked as one the youngest players to have his first taste of English top-flight football at the age of 17. He went on to play his first full season with the club in the following year, grabbing a double-digit tally of 10 goals in 25 appearances in all appearances for the Seagulls. Although he might be tender in age, his performance last season was not naive at all, certainly not in the books of Spanish managerial master Pep Guardiola, who has been paying close attention to the Republic of Ireland international.

But what elevated Evan Ferguson’s status to new heights is his insane form for the Seagulls this season, as he has already registered four goals in as many matches in the Premier League, including a hat-trick scored against Newcastle United last weekend. The three goals against the Magpies have made Evan Ferguson only the fourth 18-year-old to have scored a Premier League hat-trick in its history, with the other three being 2001 Ballon d’Or winner Michael Owen, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler and English player Chris Bart-Williams.

Erling Haaland-Evan Ferguson Duo to Destroy Premier League and European Clubs?

Evan Ferguson is currently out injured due to a knee injury in his famous performance against Newcastle last time around, banishing his hopes to shine for Republic of Ireland in their 2024 UEFA Euro Qualifiers double-header against European powerhouses France and Netherlands, but should he continue to thrive this season after he recovered from his current injury, only time is separating Manchester City and other big clubs in the world to hunt for his signature in the following transfer windows.

Just imagine this, if Manchester City do succeed in getting a wonderkid in Evan Ferguson to their squad that already consists of attackers such as Haaland and Julián Álvarez this season, Pep Guardiola’s dream of making Manchester City the only team to have won four straight Premier League titles might already be realised at this early stage of the 2023/2024 Season.
