With David Raya Set to Complete Move to Arsenal in 2024, Is Aaron Ramsdale Ready to Leave the Gunners?

With David Raya Set to Complete Move to Arsenal in 2024, Is Aaron Ramsdale Ready to Leave the Gunners?

The saga has been revolving English Premier League giants Arsenal is none other than Mikel Arteta’s decision to start new signing on loan from Brentford F.C. David Raya over former no. 1 Aaron Ramsdale as the first option to guard the goal for the Gunners. Things take another dramatic twist in the said incident just yesterday, when the 13-time English league champions confirmed that they have made an early decision to turn David Raya’s loan deal into a permanent one in 2024, and the move will leave Ramsdale’s future as a member of the Arsenal squad in jeopardy.

Arsenal to Pay Brentford £27million for David Raya

Earlier in the season, Arsenal were given the help by Brentford to complete David Raya’s transfer on a loan deal with an option to buy so that the move can conform to the Financial Fair Play Rules. Based on the player’s performance over 12 games in all competitions thus far, head coach of the Gunners Arteta has decided to trigger the buy option in advance, meaning the three-time Premier League winners will be paying their fellow English club a base fee of £27million for the Spanish shot stopper.

David Raya is a graduate from Blackburn Rovers F.C., who went on to represent the senior side 108 times before he joined Brentford in the 2019/2020 Season. The Barcelona-born goalkeeper then racked up 161 appearances for his new club, helping them to earn their first promotion to the English top-flight football in 74 years as a result; David Raya is also a regular member of the Spain national team in recent times, having registered three international caps thus far.

What Does This Mean for Ramsdale?

David Raya’s completed permanent deal will firstly impact Ramsdale’s future as an Arsenal player, with the player’s dad already took to an podcast to voice out his dissatisfaction over Arteta’s everchanging mind and preference to make the then-loanee as the no. 1 shot stopper of the team.

Furthermore, with the January transfer window looms, Arsenal legend and former England goalkeeper David Seaman gave his opinion that the England star should seek for another club when the time comes. “It is tough because Aaron’s not done a lot wrong. Last year he was goalkeeper of the year as voted by the players. That’s one of the biggest awards that you could ever hope for. Then he started this season really well, played against Scotland and finds himself on the bench. Aaron is only 24. He’s still got a long time to learn his trade but it’s a tough time for him at the moment.”

David Raya’s arrival saw a huge dip in the number of games Ramsdale has played for Arsenal this season, having only represented the club seven times in all competitions as compared to the former’s 12. The 25-year-old is rumoured to have linked with another London club Chelsea in the following transfer window, as the player would want to board the plane to Germany for the UEFA Euro 2024 Finals next summer with the England national team.

Ramsdale Ready to Start for Arsenal Against Brentford with David Raya’s Absence

Interestingly, since David Raya is practically on loan from Brentford this season, and his permanent deal will only be valid starting in 2024/2025, he will not be available for Arsenal when they take on the Bees, leaving Ramsdale as the best available goalkeeper to start in goal for the Gunners.
