Although he did not manage to offer any goal contributions in those games for Stade Rennais F.C. in France domestic football and European club football competitions, his versatile style of play especially up front caught Bayern Munich’s attention, prompting a transfer to be completed during the summer of 2022. The France-born footballer then sealed a move to join the German giants on a four-year contract and almost immediately offered his impact to the games that he has played for Bayern in 2022/2023.

In his first season with the Bavarians, Mathys Tel played a total of 28 games in all competitions under two managers from German Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel. Lazio in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 a few weeks ago in the returning leg earlier this week, scoring a treble of goals and reaching the next round of the competition on top of a 3-1 aggregate score line. Harry Kane and Thomas Müller were influential in leading the German champions back into the contest, whereas Mathys Tel came onto the pitch to replace Müller with 12 minutes remaining the normal playing time. Mathys Tel: The Potential 2024 Golden Boy Award Winner?

Despite being only 18 years of age, Mathys Tel has a couple of huge team accolades such as the 2022 UEFA European Under-17 Championship (Where he scored three goals during the group stage while also captained the French squad thrice in the tournament) and the 2022/2023 German Bundesliga 1 (Five goals in 22 league matches) trophies to his tender career. Should he be able to start more games and put on consistent performances for Bayern Munich in the near and far future, it would not be a surprise for Mathys Tel to be considered for the 2024 Golden Boy award.

The 18-year-old Mathys Tel was of course one of the 20 finalists that made it into the 2023 Golden Boy award, while the eventual individual achievement ended with Jude Bellingham from England, German Bundesliga 1’s Borussia Dortmund and Spanish La Liga’s Real Madrid as the receiver.
