Former forward for English Premier League giants and Spanish La Liga powerhouses Barcelona Luis Suárez originally signed a two-year deal with Campeonato Brasileiro Série A side Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, but the club and the player have reached a mutual decision to shorten the player’s contract by a year. Earlier this week and yesterday, the 36-year-old Luis Suárez played his final home and away games for Grêmio, helping the club to win both games with three goals in the 1-0 and 3-2 victories respectively.
Since his adventure at Brazil is coming to a close, reports have indicated that Luis Suárez is finalising a deal that will see him join his best friend Lionel Messi at Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami CF.
Luis Suárez’s Career at Grêmio
After leaving another Spanish outfit Atlético Madrid as the leading goal scorer of the team for the second consecutive season, Luis Suárez penned a deal to return to his boyhood club Club Nacional de Football. The Uruguayan managed to score eight goals in 16 appearances in all competitions for the Uruguayan Primera División side, before signing for Brazilian club Grêmio in the following season.
It is understood that Luis Suárez’s deal with Grêmio had the length of two years, but severe knee problems have prompted the player to cut short his stay at the club with personnel agreeing to the mutual reduction of the contract duration. During his chapter with Grêmio, the two-time European Golden Shoe winner scored a whooping total of 29 goals in 54 appearances in all tournaments for the club, leading them to a second-placed finish in the 2023 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Season with only two points behind the eventual winners Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras.

Is Luis Suárez Reuniting with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami?
According to local newspapers and other reliable sources, Luis Suárez is indeed on the verge of signing a deal with Inter Miami CF, a deal that not only will reunite him with former strike partner and 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning skipper Lionel Messi, but also his ex-teammate at Barcelona, namely Spanish duo Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
During his time at Barcelona, Luis Suárez had of course won 13 major silverwares with the Catalan Giants and the three players mentioned above, including four Spanish La Liga titles, four Copa del Reys, two Supercopa de España, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup. It is safe to say Luis Suárez’s potential arrival at the Major League Soccer will cause another huge wave of attention given, especially to Inter Miami CF, a club that gained enormous popularity due to the stardom of their co-owner David Beckham and Lionel Messi’s transfer earlier this year.

What Did Luis Suárez Say About the Potential Move to Inter Miami CF?
The 36-year-old Luis Suárez is tight-lipped whenever being asked about a potential move to Inter Miami CF, and his recent statement to the press gives pretty much nothing about the transfer. The Uruguayan spoke about prioritising his health and family, before making a decision on where he is playing next. But one thing is for sure, Luis Suárez is definitely not ready for retirement from professional football just yet.
