North London Derby: Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur Lock Horns for the First Feisty Encounter in 2023/2024

North London Derby: Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur Lock Horns for the First Feisty Encounter in 2023/2024

The stage is set this weekend for one of the most storied rivalries in the history of European club football, as Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will be hosting their arch-rivals and Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur at Emirates for the first North London Derby of the 2023/2024 English Premier League Season. This Sunday clash between the two London outfits will be Spurs’ first North London Derby outing since their all-time leading goal scorer Harry Kane decided to depart from England and complete a move to defending German Bundesliga 1 champions Bayern Munich for €120 million last summer transfer window.

194th North London Derby Between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur

Both clubs came into this 2023/2024 Season with different aspirations to prove their worth. For the Gunners, who signed notable players such as Kai Havertz and Declan Rice, will be aiming to capture their first league title since 2003/2004 after their failed campaign last year that saw them lead big part of the title race against Manchester City, while Tottenham Hotspur, who recently sold one of the best players in their history last summer, will now wanting to show the world that they can win without a prolific forward like Kane.

Prior to this North London Derby, both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been performing to high standards and they remain two of only four teams who have yet to taste any defeats in the Premier League this season, with the other two being last season’s winners Manchester City and Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool. If anything the dream start seen in both Gunners and Tottenham Hotspur has further elevated the heights of this 194th North London Derby, and stakes are at their best for the teams to destroy the other’s unbeaten start in the league this time around.

Did you know that Klopp forwent a chance to become the next Germany manager before the German FA decided to appoint 36-year-old Julian Nagelsmann to coach Die Mannschaft for UEFA Euro 2024? We have all the stories covered here, check it out now!

Arsenal: Four Wins and One Loss Against Tottenham Hotspur in Their Previous Five Meetings

Not only does the all-time record between Gunners and Spurs in the North London Derby not favouring the latter (Arsenal has 81 wins as compared to Tottenham Hotspur’s 61), the last five meetings between two also signaled a poor trend for the team in white, as Spurs have only won once and lost four times against Arteta’s Gunners in their recent five encounters. Furthermore, since this match will be played at Arsenal’s home stadium of Emirates, Tottenham Hotspur’s record for the last 12 games there is at four losses and eight draws, meaning the history shows that there is only a slim chance for the visitors to earn more than a single point this Sunday.

If recent histories are not a correct way to predict the outcome of the 194th North London Derby, perhaps we can take a look at both team’s forms in all competitions thus far. For the current 4th best team in the Premier League, Arsenal has won all but one match in 2023/2024, and the draw came against another London side Fulham last month, whereas second-placed Spurs have fired in 13 goals in five matches in the Premier League and only suffered a loss against the Cottagers in the second round of the EFL Cup.

Postecoglou Does Not Relate His Unbeaten Start in the Premier League as Honeymoon

When asked if Tottenham Hotspur’s great start to the 2023/2024 Season has anything to do with their rather easier schedule than the rest of the pack in the Premier League, the 58-year-old Manager of the Month for August said: “I don’t know what your honeymoon was like, but mine didn’t have me losing the greatest player in the history of this football club on the eve of a transfer window. Everywhere I’ve been, the second year is where I’ve felt like the team has really taken hold, but I also understand at this football club I can’t go three, four, five months without results because I won’t last. That’s the reality of it.”

Our Bold Prediction of the 194th North London Derby

We at https://www.otherleague.com/ certainly would like to predict what would likely be the outcome of this Sunday’s North London Derby. Since histories are meant to be broken, and there is not a better time for Tottenham Hotspur to get the better of their North London rivals than now, we think that Postecoglou’s men will leave Emirates with all three points via a small-margin victory this time around. If you do not agree with our match result forecast, feel free to leave us your own prediction down in the comment section below now!
